Nerikaen Designs

Known online as Nerikaen and in person as Charlotte, I am a digital artist specialisng in branding, marketing and personal illustrations. With a BA in Graphic Design, I create visuals for a range of clients, both large companies and smaller independent creators.

concept Designs

Bursary Portal

The University of East London tasked me with creating the concept art for their new SMART Bursary Portal; an online app that students can access to apply for financial support from the University.

Virutal reality

Exhibition Promo Art

For my BA Dissertation, I created an interactive exhibit called Future Nature VR. Visitors could experience a small environment designed by myself including custom curated music to promote a calm atmosphere.

branding and Logo Design

Dracion Studios

I helped an indie Game Development Studio curate their first branding designs for their company, alongside aiding with the development of their website and showreel assets.

INternal Branding

Student Hub

The University of East London's Student Hub tasked me to support them in providing additional branding for the team to be used in their email correspondence, as well as resources to give to students during busy periods.

Reimagine Newham

REIMAGINE NEWHAM is a new genre of public art consisting of 12 independent artists, with direct engagement with audiences to deal with pressing socio-political issues - and to search for the good and make it matter - all centred around the borough of Newham.

design exercises

practice briefs

In order to keep my skills up to date I take part in multiple projects throughout the year where I use prompts in order to complete practice design briefs. This is allowing me valuable learning time as I grow my portfolio for corporate design based work.

Character and BG Art

Personal Illustration

I work with a range of small clients in order to design and create custom illustrations for a wide range of uses. My main project client are Streamers who require overlays and branding, but I also make background and character art for personal usage.

3D Modelling

Streaming Assets

I have a long list of clients who have commissioned me for digital 3D models and branding of their personas and characters to use in a range of software and games. The most popular useage is for streamers who wish to keep their real identity private, and also those who enjoy playing online virtual reality games such as VR Chat.

Bursary Portal Concept Art

Virtual Reality Future Nature

The initial design was created within VR itself, in an application called Open Brush VR. This software is an open source art app that allows designers to create an environment around them, compared to just using developing software such as blender or unreal engine.Once I created my base design ideas in Open Brush, I then exported it into Unreal Engine in order to make it compatible with virtual reality headsets, as well as add additional prefab models.

The original concepts came in the form of two environments that allowed me to test a few different styles and sizes in Open Brush, and work with what looked right and matched my end vision. The above video reel was also intended to be used, but unfortunately I was unable to optimise it to be used with headsets without users experiencing visual lag, which risked causing motion sickness.

Promotional

Creation

Drawn assets could be individually added and imported into different software in order to edit and move the original environment to work better for the intended environment. Some designs also went into blender before unreal so that they could be properly edited and textured to reduce end design errors. The main asset that did this was my custom 3D models of deers, that you can see below.

I also turned some of my 3D modelled work into stickers that visitors of the exhibit could take home.

Student Hub Resources

I have deisgned a range of posters, prints and contact cards to be used by the University of East London's Student Hub Team as part of a project to revamp the resources available to students during the enrolment periods.

Resources include posters advising of their Phone line changes during peak periods, contact cards to advise students of Key Teams they can reach out to as they start their HE experience, and printed resources advising what support is available to students at UEL.

I have also designed the team an email header to be used in correspondence with students and internal services, as most teams in the institute had their own aside from their team. The final design was chosen via a vote within the team to make sure the design represented the team as a whole, and is now used by all staff.

Dracion Studios Brand

I have become the in-house designer for Dracion Studios, and help support the founder in both his personal branding, as well as the companies'.My larger projects for them was their logo branding, website design, and the creation of a stylistic CV for the founder, seen below.

Reimagine Newham

Reimagine Newham is a project that saw a collective of artists and the community come together to examine and interpret the world we live in. Centred around their experiences of the borough and angled as a new genre of public art, it encouraged participants to “deal with socio-political issues” and “search for the good” in trying times.

Culminated in a public exhibition at Royal Victoria Docks it was Newham’s very first public AR exhibition, with the 12 participants’ artworks featured on street posters for passers-by to scan and experience. As the borough with the lowest cultural investment in London, the Newham project was a wonderful way to cultivate connections and expand artistic engagement – showcasing art away from typical, sometimes intimidating gallery settings, and placing it right within London’s communities.

The designs were brought to life by Spark AR, a software created by Meta to support creators making art and designs for filters to use in social media.

Streaming Assets

3D Model Design

My 3D models are created using a software called Vroid Studio. Using the app to create rough guides for outfits and texture before finalising these in Procreate and Photoshop before importing back into the software to finish. Most of my customers who commission me purchase these for streaming purposes, and all have an online prescence on various streaming platforms such as Twich.

I also help support my clients in the creation of their design for those who do not have a pre-existing character for me to reference. I support by providing mockup sketches to show them how I think an outfit or hairstyle might look for them to pick from before I create it in the software.

brand kits for streamers

Most of my clients who order branding from me tend to be repeat customers, and so I will find myself creating the majority of their streaming assets. On top of the 3D models, streamers will also hire me to create custom branded overlay packages for them. These include gameplay overlays, stream schedule art, as well as mini button panels to use for their social media information on Twitch.
